Real Democracy

We believe democracy should belong to the people.

Democracy is supposed to mean that the people govern.

But real democracy is more than voting every few years. It means people have the power to shape the decisions that affect their lives. It means fair elections, voting rights, transparent government, accountable elected officials, public participation, and strong local organizing.

It also means working people can run for office, win, govern, and remain accountable to the communities that elected them.

Right now, our democracy is distorted by concentrated wealth and political power.

Too much power is concentrated in the hands of corporations, lobbyists, wealthy political actors, and insiders who have far more access to elected officials than everyday people do.

Big money shapes elections, blocks popular policies, funds misinformation, and makes many people feel like government will never work for them.

At the same time, voting rights are under attack, districts can be manipulated, public participation is made confusing or inaccessible, and people are encouraged to disengage because they believe politics is hopeless or corrupt.

This is not inevitable.

The problem is not that some people have wealth or that some wealthy people choose to support movement work.

The problem is when concentrated wealth buys governing power.

There is a difference between donors who support organizing because they believe in democracy and wealthy interests that use money to control policy, block popular demands, weaken public institutions, or make elected officials more accountable to donors than to constituents.

RAD NH’s critique is not of individual people who contribute resources to the movement without trying to control it. Our critique is of a political system where money can drown out the voices of working people.

RAD NH is organizing for real democracy.

RAD NH believes democracy should be built from the ground up.

We organize year-round to bring more people into civic and political life, develop community leaders, train trusted messengers, support movement-aligned candidates, hold elected officials accountable, and build local teams that can act together over time.

We support voting rights, campaign finance reform, fair maps, public accountability, transparency, and getting big money out of politics.

We believe working people should not only be asked to vote. They should be invited to lead, organize, govern, and shape the future of New Hampshire.
